Foundation 501 helps raise awareness, change perceptions and provides financial support for those charitable organizations so they may continue their good deeds. It’s our duty to care for our elders, protect them and see to it they are well cared for.  The Alive & Cooking Cookbook will be a collection of time-honored family recipes, exclusively created by senior citizens and of those who’ve submitted on behalf of their loved ones. Through the Alive & Cooking recipe contest, many seniors will be awarded the grand prize; having their picture taken cooking their dish alongside one of our top chefs for the pages of our cookbook.100% of the proceeds of the sale of the cookbook will go to Second Wind Dreams so they may continue their research and to grant the wishes of senior citizens all over the world.

 

The idea of the recipe contest and cookbook came to me because  I was asked to write a screenplay based on the life’s work of P.K. Beville (Founder & President of Second Wind Dreams, Creator, Virtual Dementia Tour® and the Author of “Second Wind.”)  I was amazed at the stories she told me about her work with the many residents and staff at the Assisted Living and Nursing Homes all over the Nation.  While writing the screenplay an idea came to mind.  A cookbook comprised of their recipes.  Recipes and the stories that go along with them could be lost forever if they aren't written down somewhere for all to enjoy.  That is how Alive & Cooking came to be.  Now, putting together a great idea is very much like cooking a fabulous dish. First, you must start with great ingredients. What will the book consist of? 

 

While my grandparents were in a nursing home, my mom always made sure she prepared one of the dishes my nana made for us growing up.  She told me how much joy it brought my grandmother and father.

The pages of this cookbook had to be unique, special, and be as much FUN as my grandparents were!  Filled with; fun facts, healthful hints, substitutions, pairing for the dishes, photos of the grand prize winners cooking with one of our top chefs, and heartwarming stories of those who grace the pages.     

I'm honored to be able to shine a bright light on the many well-seasoned citizens who will be in the Alive & Cooking Cookbook and that their recipes and their memories will be handed down from generation to generation, so they will always LIVE ON!

 

It should be a great honor to pass down your family's favorite recipes from one generation to the next to be shared and never forgotten but improved upon.
